Construction along Dingell Drive to Impact Traffic Flow

Customers heading to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) should allow extra drive time due to construction. In January, the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) launched a multi-project construction program to rehabilitate roadway tunnels on Dingell Drive. The projects impact traffic flow on Dingell Drive from approximately the Evans Terminal to the Eureka Road exit and entrance ramps near the McNamara Terminal.

DTW Destination Pass - Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the DTW Destination Pass Program?

    This program allows members of the public who are not flying to visit Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and enjoy the amenities on the secure side of the airport. For example, you could:

    • Spend time at a gate or a restaurant with family and friends
    • Surprise your arriving service member at his/her gate (for domestic arrivals)
    • Bring your family to watch the arrivals and departures of different types of planes
    • Pick up a gift for your arriving passenger or dine at one of the many restaurants at DTW.

  • How does the DTW Destination Pass program work?

    The DTW Destination Pass Kiosks are available for use at both the McNamara and Evans terminals from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m., seven days a week. The Evans Terminal kiosk is in the ticket lobby near the elevators on the Departures Level.

    1. Apply for the pass

    • On the day of your visit, between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 p.m., locate one of the DTW Destination Kiosks and scan your Government Photo ID.
    • If your ID fails to be scanned, type in your full legal name (exactly as it appears on your passport or driver’s license) and your date of birth, and complete any other required fields.
    • Minors, 17 years or younger, must be accompanied by an adult. You can manually type in their full legal name and apply for a pass without a Government Photo ID as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

    2. Pick up your DTW Destination Pass

    • Once you scan your ID or type in your information, you will read and acknowledge the terms and conditions and your DTW Destination Pass will print at the kiosk.
    • Report to the designated TSA passenger screening checkpoint with your approved DTW Destination Pass and identification.

    Other Important Details:

    • Those applying for a Destination Pass are subject to the same security regulations as passengers boarding an aircraft. Please review the list of TSAs prohibited items.
    • This program allows entrance to the secure side of the terminals seven days a week. We recommend that you depart the terminal by 10 p.m. as airport services are limited after that time.
    • The Destination Pass is only valid for one day.
    • DTW Destination Pass access is approved for personal use only; commercial or professional use is expressly forbidden and will result in revocation of your program access.

  • What happens when security checkpoint lines are long?

    Ticketed passengers will be given first priority to board their flights. Those receiving the DTW Destination Pass may be asked to wait to enter the checkpoint. The issuance of passes may be suspended during peak travel times or under special circumstances. Passes are NOT guaranteed.

  • Where do I sign up for the DTW Destination Pass?

    Visit one of the DTW Destination Pass Kiosks located at the McNamara and Evans terminals on the Departures Level (ticket counter level).

  • When can I use the DTW Destination Pass?

    This program allows access to the secure side of the terminals between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. (Eastern Time Zone). Be sure to allow enough time to get your DTW Destination Pass and move through the security lines. At peak travel times, we recommend you follow the same guidelines as ticketed passengers: arrive early to allow enough time for parking and longer screening lines. Many of the airport services and restaurants close at 10 p.m. Please check our website for the most up-to-date information regarding hours of operation.

    • Enrollment is available seven days a week from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m.

  • What items can I bring with me?

    DTW Destination Pass users are subject to the same security regulations as ticketed passengers. Access to the secure area is granted by the TSA.

    • All regulations regarding prohibited items, including liquids and aerosol cans, apply to DTW Destination Pass holders.
    • Please bring only one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, or small bag through the security checkpoint.

  • Can I meet passengers who are arriving from international flights?

    No, visitors participating in the DTW Destination Pass program can only meet passengers arriving on domestic flights or reconnecting on another flight.

  • Can minors use the DTW Destination Pass?

    Yes, minors are eligible to participate but must be accompanied by an adult.

    • A sponsoring adult can manually input a minor’s information and enroll them using the kiosk.
    • Visitors 18 years of age or older, who have a valid photo ID, must complete registration through the kiosk.

  • How long will this program last?

    The program has no expected end date, However, DTW has the right to cancel, suspend or modify the program at any time without prior notice.

  • How do we apply for a family or group?

    Each eligible adult may sponsor up to four (4) additional family members or guests. Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by the sponsoring adult.

  • Can I use DTW Destination Pass with CLEAR® or TSA Pre✓®?

    No, DTW Destination Pass cannot be used with either of these special access programs.

  • What kind of identification is accepted?

    Any valid form of identification accepted by TSA can be used for the DTW Destination Pass, including licenses from other states and U.S. and international passports.

  • I am not a U.S. citizen. Can I participate in this program?

    Yes, you can participate in this program if you submit your registration, are approved for entry, and provide your TSA-approved ID

  • I'm a badged airport employee. Can I use the DTW Destination Pass?

    If you are not entering the airport in a professional capacity, you may use the DTW Destination Pass program. You may not use this program as an alternative to security clearance, if you are reporting to work in the secure area of the airport. If you violate these terms, you will be subject to fines and fees.

  • What about accessibility and wheelchair assistance?

  • How will you use my personal information?

    To receive a DTW Destination Pass from the Airport to access post security, all Authorized Individuals and any minors, meaning an individual under 18 years of age who is entering with such individual, will be required to provide certain personal information that triggers the need for an important Privacy Act Statement. All individuals should carefully read the Privacy Act Statement below and consider the implications of providing their personal information.
    PRIVACY ACT STATEMENT
    AUTHORITY: 49 U.S.C. § 114(f). PRINCIPAL PURPOSE(S): This information is collected by airport operators or their representatives in order to conduct checks of TSA’s Secure Flight watch lists on individuals who wish to access the Sterile Area at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) which is located beyond the screening checkpoint. TSA may receive this information from airport operators or their representatives in order to resolve suspected or actual matches to this database.
    ROUTINE USE(S):TSA may share this information with aircraft and airport operators, foreign air carriers, or appropriate Federal, State, or other agency regarding individuals who pose or are suspected of posing a risk to transportation or national security, or for other routine uses identified in TSA systems of records, DHS/TSA 019 Secure Flight Records. DISCLOSURE: Voluntary; failure to furnish the requested information will result in your inability to access facilities located in the airport beyond the screening checkpoint.   • Where do I park and how do I get from one terminal to the other?

    Detroit Metro Airport offers many parking options, including handicap accessible parking and the Terminal to Terminal shuttle. Participants who want to access either terminal can use the shuttle services in the ground transportation centers of each terminal.

  • Can I use the DTW Destination Pass to access the airline clubs in the McNamara and Evans terminals?

    No, you cannot use the DTW Destination Pass to access the airline clubs (Delta Sky Club and Lufthansa Senator Lounge). The airline clubs are for ticketed passengers only. Ticketed travelers should check with their airline to see if they're allowed access.
