Airport Fire Department

All members of the department are licensed paramedics, specifically trained to respond in the rare instances when aircraft rescue and firefighting is needed. In 2011, the Airport Fire Department became the first Airport Authority Fire Department in the nation to earn an international accreditation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). CFAI promotes professional excellence in firefighting and emergency services.

Our on-site fire department provides the following services:

Release of Medical Records

In the event you experience a medical emergency for which you receive medical services through the Detroit Metro Airport’s Fire Department, and would like to request the release of your medical records, you may do so through the Authorization for Release of Medical Information. Completed forms must be submitted to the Airport Authority’s Fire Department for processing. Individuals requesting the release of their medical records shall be provided a copy of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Release form.

As healthcare providers, Fire Department personnel must maintain the confidentiality of patient medical records and information. Personnel also have a duty to release public information upon request in compliance with HIPAA, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and other guidelines.
