United Airlines to start new nonstop flight between Detroit and San Francisco beginning next JuneNews Releases
DETROIT (August 23, 2016) – Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) customers now have even more choices when flying to DTW’s top 20 markets. For the first time in more than 25 years, United Airlines recently began selling daily nonstop flights between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Detroit – starting June 8, 2017. The new Golden City flight rounds out the list of top 20 North American destinations from DTW having at least two airlines providing nonstop service. San Francisco is Detroit’s 13th largest market with more than 350,000 local passengers traveling between the cities each year, and was the largest without at least a second carrier providing nonstop service, according to data from the International Air Transport Association.
“Ensuring our community has excellent access to air service in our top markets has been a priority for our team,” said Airport Authority CEO Thomas Naughton. “The addition of United’s new service to San Francisco is a tribute to the rising strength of our economy, and our team’s hard work and diligence in addressing the growing demand for air service here in our region.”
“We want to make United Airlines the preferred airline for our customers in Detroit,” said Annette Zappala, United’s regional director of Sales. “United’s new flight to San Francisco will provide business and leisure travelers with convenient access to the Bay Area and easy connection opportunities to business centers throughout Asia.”
United will operate a convenient flight schedule between Detroit and San Francisco, utilizing its Airbus A319 aircraft, with evening departures from Detroit and morning departures from San Francisco. From DTW, United currently provides nonstop service to its gateway airports in Denver, New York/Newark, Washington, D.C.-Dulles, Houston and Chicago.
United Airlines DTW-SFO flight schedule beginning June 8, 2017:
UA 472 departs DTW at 5:30 p.m., arrives SFO at 7:50 p.m.
UA 471 departs SFO at 8:30 a.m., arrives DTW at 4:20 p.m.
“We are seeing increased development of autonomous vehicle applications expanding ties between Detroit’s automotive engineering base and the technology centers around San Francisco,” said Airport Authority Director of Air Service Development Joe Cambron. “This trend towards greater integration of technology and manufacturing is increasing the need for additional service between the Motor City and Silicon Valley.”
