Contractor (Construction) Procedures

Contractor ID Badges may only be issued for approved Airport construction projects. Contractors will be required to provide Airport Security with a copy of an approved Wayne County Construction and Alteration Permit (C & A Permit), CIP Project Letter or MDOT letter before accessing the construction site.

All individuals who enter a Security Sensitive Area must have in their possession a valid Airport Identification Badge. Persons with a valid photo ID Badge will be allowed unescorted access to construction sites in Security Sensitive Areas of the Airport. Individuals with non-photo ID Badges must be escorted at all times by someone with a photo ID Badge with Escort Authority. (This escort is required when moving to and from a Restricted Area or AOA construction site and while on the site).

Contractors that are new to DTW, and require driving access on the Air Operations Area (AOA), must attend a one-time Ramp Safety Tour given by an Airfield Operations Specialist. The tour cannot be taken until the new applicant’s background has cleared. Individuals who have previously taken the Ramp Safety Tour (at any time in the past) do not need to attend it again. The Ramp Safety Tour is no longer required yearly. Instead, during Airport Badge renewal process the 30-minute computer-based Ramp Training will be taken. This is for all contractors and vendors who have the ramp icon on their badge. For more information on the tour, please visit our Vehicle Permits section.
