International Connections

If you are arriving to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) on an INTERNATIONAL flight, you will be required to claim all checked baggage and clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) entry procedures regardless of your final destination.

            Information on International Arrivals Procedures

If you arrive on DELTA, Air France or KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and are connecting to another flight operated by one of these three airlines, you may re-check your baggage and ask questions of airline representatives at dedicated counters immediately after clearing CBP inspection.

If you arrive to DTW on DELTA, Air France or KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and are connecting to a flight operated by another carrier, you will need to exit the international arrivals area into the arrivals hall and follow signs to Ground Transportation for the free TERMINAL-WESTIN-TERMINAL shuttle to the North Terminal.  Once at the North Terminal, proceed to your connecting airline’s check-in counter to re-check your baggage.

If you arrive to DTW on an international flight operated by Lufthansa, Spirit Airlines or Royal Jordanian Airlines, please proceed to your connecting airline’s check-in counter to re-check baggage and for assistance from airline personnel. Customers connecting to a flight operated by DELTA, Air France or KLM Royal Dutch Airlines should follow signs to Ground Transportation to catch the free TERMINAL-WESTIN-TERMINAL shuttle to the McNamara Terminal. Customers connecting to all other airlines will find their connecting airline’s check-in counter directly above the North Terminal international arrivals hall.
