Recently, the Wayne County Airport Authority celebrated a milestone in its North Terminal Redevelopment Project with the placement of the final steel beam composing the terminal structure at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). This topping-off ceremony dates back to a centuries-old tradition and signifies the completion of the terminal’s framework. Over the next several months, the project team will focus on completing the exterior walls of the facility and then begin building-out the terminal’s interior. You can read more about the new terminal and its progress in the North Terminal Project section [LINK] of this Web site. The Smith and Berry Terminals have served our region well throughout the past 50 years, but I think we can all agree that it is now time for a brand-new facility that meets the needs and standards for efficiency and convenience set by today’s airlines and travelers. Upon completion of the new facility, the existing Smith and Berry terminals will be decommissioned making DTW one of the newest, most operationally-capable and efficient airports in North America. If you're passing through the Smith Terminal, be sure to check-out the model of the new North Terminal facility in the ticket lobby. |
