This month the very last contract for sound insulating homes in noise impacted areas around Detroit Metropolitan Airport will be awarded.
This marks the end of the Residential Sound Insulation Program which began in 1997, cost nearly $76 million, and sound insulated more than 2,400 homes. The airport also purchased 265 homes in the most noise impacted areas and sound insulated 7 schools in five communities.
Residential sound insulation typically includes new acoustical windows, sound attenuating doors, attic insulation and other architectural treatments. In most of the homes it also included new heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
As of the beginning of this year, the airport has spent more than $118 million on noise-related projects. To learn more, visit the press room on our home page.
