The US Department of Homeland Security raised the threat level at our nation’s airports on 8/10/06 from Yellow to Orange, with a Red alert on flights originating in Britain. This is, of course, a serious concern to our public safety officers, Transportation Security Administration (TSA ) officials and our passengers. I want to take a moment to express our appreciation for the great job being done by the TSA at the screening checkpoints at Detroit Metro Airport. The changes in security screening created much longer than usual lines at the checkpoints, but the TSA screeners performed their duties with professionalism and courtesy.
Our passengers can help streamline the screening process by packing light. Limit carry-on items to essentials and be sure to pack liquids (shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, gels, etc.) in checked luggage. If you can eliminate a carry-on bag entirely, that will speed the process all the more.
It’s possible that more changes to screening procedures will be implemented over the next few days. Please visit www.tsa.gov for the latest information for air travelers. And, please do not change your travel plans because of the latest security events. Remain vigilant of those around you and report any unusual activity to the authorities, Be patient and trust that our security experts are doing everything within their power to keep air travel safe for everyone.
