There have been several newspaper articles and television coverage recently about changes to luxury sedan services at Detroit Metro Airport. The most recent allegations or inferences that disabled passengers will be left stranded when the new luxury sedan contract takes effect couldn’t be further from the truth. It has been standard practice for years that disabled travelers obtain assistance from airline representatives, who can accompany such individuals through Baggage Claim and to the Ground Transportation area. Sky caps also are highly trained to assist disabled travelers and are proficient at helping them with their baggage and ensuring that they get to Ground Transportation and in the correct vehicle. This procedure hasn’t changed at all. Therefore, the inference that the disabled will be stranded because we are no longer allowing the luxury-sedan companies to have representatives in the Baggage Claim area is unequivocally wrong and a disservice to the outstanding people who are trained to help the disabled. It is important to know that disabled travelers will be treated as well as ever at Metro Airport and that we take very seriously any accusation to the contrary.
