Demolition has begun on the long vacant Marriott Hotel which sits between the now flattened Davey Terminal and the Smith Terminal. After that structure is demolished and its various components recycled, construction will begin on a modern new 26-gate north terminal with a linear boarding concourse. The north terminal will accommodate all of the airlines currently flying out of the outdated Smith and Berry Terminals including: Air Canada, AirTran, American, America West/USAirways Southwest, Spirit, Frontier, United, USA 3000, and non-scheduled airlines, such as Champion Air, Ryan International and others. Since the new terminal, scheduled to open in 2008, will have federal inspection services, international carriers British Airways, Lufthansa and Royal Jordanian will move from the McNamara Terminal to the north terminal.
