North Terminal Project  ::  Overview

A New Era of Progress for DTW...

With the new McNamara Terminal and more than $2 billion in recent airport improvements now complete, the Wayne County Airport Authority is moving forward with the next round of improvements at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW).

The North Terminal Redevelopment (NTR) Project is a planned 26-gate terminal complex being designed to replace the airport’s older Berry & Smith terminal complex.

When complete, the new North Terminal complex will be used to accommodate DTW’s airlines that are currently operating out of the aging L.C. Smith and Berry Terminals. The new terminal will also have a Federal Inspection Station (FIS) to accommodate international flights. A three level Ground Transportation Center will be constructed adjacent to the blue deck to accommodate all commercial vehicle loading & unloading.

The new North Terminal complex is a critical link in DTW’s efforts to maximize both the efficiency of the airport and its economic value to the community. The project will modernize the entire airport terminal complex and create a world-class facility that provides the type of services all our passengers and visitors deserve.
