Biometric Tech at DTW

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) now uses biometric technology in both the Evans and McNamara terminals to speed up the boarding process and take the stress out of travel.

DTW worked with TSA and United States Customs and Border Protection to implement biometric facial recognition technology. It’s now in use at eight international gates in the Evans Terminal to meet federal requirements and improve customer experience. Travelers no longer must present photo identification when boarding an aircraft but submit to a facial recognition scan instead.

U.S. citizens can opt out of facial recognition scans, but visiting foreign nationals must submit to facial scans during their arrival and departure as part of Customs and Border Protection’s entry-exit program.

The McNamara Terminal employs facial recognition technology at its check-in and gate counters throughout the A, B, and C concourses.

Installing facial recognition technology is the latest step in DTW’s commitment to offering millions of passengers a safer, more efficient way to travel.

Customs & Border Protection

Passengers traveling internationally must clear Customs prior to entry into the U.S.
