Welcome to Detroit!  We want to make your entry into the United States simple and quick.

All passengers arriving at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) on international flights must:

1)    Complete U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) entry procedures

2)    Claim their baggage, unless transferring to another international flight

3)    Exit the international arrivals hall to Detroit or to a connecting flight

Connecting/Transferring Options

1)    Within the McNamara Terminal / SkyTeam Alliance

If you arrive at DTW on Air France, Delta Air Lines, or Virgin Atlantic and are connecting to another flight operated by one of these three airlines, you may re-check your baggage after exiting the international arrivals hall.  Stay to the right as you exit CBP.  Airline representatives are available to answer your questions at dedicated counters immediately after exiting the arrivals hall.

Passengers arriving from Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Halifax, Canada; and Nassau, The Bahamas, are subject to U.S. pre-clearance prior to their departure to the United States and are generally treated as domestic passengers upon arrival at DTW.

Note:  All passengers connecting to another flight, except for U.S. pre-clearance flights, will be required to be rescreened by the Transportation Security Administration.

2)    Within the North Terminal / All other airlines and alliances

If you arrive at DTW on an international flight operated by Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Spirit Airlines, or a charter airline and are connecting to an airline located in the North Terminal, please proceed to the check-in counter of your connecting airline to re-check baggage and for assistance from airline representatives.  The North Terminal airline check-in counters are located directly above the North Terminal international arrivals hall.

Passengers arriving on Air Canada flights from Toronto are subject to U.S. pre-clearance prior to their departure to the United States and are generally treated as domestic passengers upon arrival at DTW.

Note:  All passengers connecting to another flight, except for U.S. pre-clearance flights, will be required to be rescreened by the Transportation Security Administration.

3)    Transferring Between Terminals

Passengers making a connection that requires a terminal change, will need to exit the arrivals hall and follow the signs to Ground Transportation for the free Terminal-Westin-Terminal shuttle.  Once you have arrived at the other terminal, proceed to the check-in counter of your connecting airline to re-check your baggage.

Note:  All passengers connecting to a flight in another terminal will be required to be rescreened by the Transportation Security Administration.
