1.What is the easiest and most efficient way to report lost items?

For the easiest and most efficient way to report a lost items, Click here:https://apps.clemis.org/lostfound. Once submitted, information regarding your lost items will be accessible by Lost and Found staff. You will receive a confirmation email with a reference number for tracking purposes. If you reply to the confirmation email with additional lost items information (i.e. size, design, color, style, brand name or logo, unique markings, etc.) not listed on the form, it will automatically be routed to the appropriate personnel.


2.How long before I can claim my recovered lost items?

It can take up to three (3) business days for items to be routed to and processed by our Lost and Found office. Processing times vary by type of item and where it was lost within the Airport. Report your lost items as soon as possible, but please do not come to the Lost and Found office until you are contacted.


3.How will I know that my items have been recovered?

If your items are recovered, you will be contacted by phone or email by a Detroit Metropolitan Airport Lost and Found team member. Items can be picked up during business hours MONDAY through FRIDAY 8 AM – 4:30 PM or shipped to you for a fee via Fed Ex. In order to ship any item, you will need to set up a personal account with FedEx. FEDEX IS THE ONLY SHIPPING SERVICE PERMITTED. Your reference number and proper identification must be presented.

5. What do I need to bring to claim recovered items?

Photo Identification is necessary and having the reference number will help expedite the process.


To claim and pick up an item, you must have one of the following:


Valid Identification:

  • Driver'S License
  • State ID
  • Passport
  • Other government-issued photo ID
Proof Of Ownership:(at least one of the items listed below):
  • The reference number sent to you by Lost & Found personnel
  • Purchase receipt with a detailed description of the lost item

6. What if I live out of town or I cannot pick up my items?

You have the sole responsibility of making shipping arrangements for your recovered property. Recovered items will be packaged and available for pick up. In order to ship any items, you will need to set up a personal account with FedEx.FEDEX IS THE ONLY SHIPPING SERVICE PERMITTED. A reference number and proper identification must be presented.

7. Can someone else claim my lost items?

Yes, someone may pick up lost items for you, but he or she must have a notarized statement from you giving him or her permission to pick up items on your behalf. A copy of your photo identification (driver’s license, state ID, or other government-issued ID only) in addition to photo ID of the person picking up the item and the reference number is required to claim property. No exceptions will be made to this policy.


8. How are wallets and purses processed?

If a wallet or purse is found and it contains identification, a postcard will be mailed to the address listed on the identification. If you have filed a lost item report, contact information (phone number, email address, etc.) will be used to notify you. In order to claim your property, another form of identification bearing your name and address will be required.


9. What if I left or lost something on an airplane?

Each airline is responsible for items found on its planes. Please contact the airline directly: http://www.metroairport.com/airlines,


10. What if I left or lost something at a TSA checkpoint?

Items left at the passenger screening checkpoints will be held at the TSA Lost and Found office. Please contact the TSA Lost and Found Office at 734-9423126.


11. What if I left or lost something in a Checker Sedan, MetroCar, rental car, taxi, limo service, or business other than an airport terminal?
